My Six Months with USDT on TON Blockchain

Today is October 18, 2025, and I’ve been actively using USDT on the TON blockchain for about six months now. I initially got involved because I was looking for faster and cheaper transactions than what Ethereum offered, especially for smaller amounts. I’m a bit of a crypto enthusiast, and my name is Eleanor Vance, and I like to experiment with different networks. I’ve always been cautious, but the potential of TON, coupled with Tether’s stability, seemed like a good combination.

Why I Chose TON for USDT

Before TON, I primarily used USDT on Ethereum. While reliable, the gas fees were often prohibitive, especially when sending smaller amounts to friends or using decentralized applications. I read about Tether expanding to TON, and the promise of lower fees and faster confirmations really piqued my interest. I did a lot of research, reading articles like the ones detailing Bitfinex’s support for USDT on TON and Tether’s overall strategy to boost peer-to-peer payments on Telegram. It all sounded very promising.

Setting Up and Initial Transfers

I already had a TON wallet – I use Tonkeeper, which I found relatively easy to set up. The first step was acquiring USDT on TON. I initially used a centralized exchange, Toobit, which had recently integrated TON, to swap some of my existing USDT (originally on Ethereum) for USDT on the TON blockchain. The process was straightforward, and the fees were significantly lower than what I was used to. I remember being pleasantly surprised when the transaction confirmed in under 20 seconds!

My Experiences with Transactions

I’ve since used USDT on TON for a variety of purposes. I regularly send small amounts to my friend, David, who’s also a TON enthusiast. We use it to settle bets and split expenses. The transactions are almost instantaneous, and the fees are consistently under $0.01 – a huge improvement over Ethereum. I also experimented with a few decentralized applications (dApps) built on TON that support USDT. The experience was smooth, and the lower fees made using these dApps much more practical.

Bridging to Other Blockchains

I did encounter a situation where I needed to move USDT from my TON wallet to a Phantom wallet, which doesn’t directly support TON. As I discovered from reading on Reddit, a direct transfer isn’t possible. However, I successfully bridged the USDT to the Ethereum network using a cross-chain bridge. It took a little longer and involved slightly higher fees than a native TON transaction, but it worked as expected. It’s important to be aware of these limitations and plan accordingly.

Current Market Observations (as of today)

I’ve been keeping an eye on the TON/USDT price. I noticed the recent increase in Toncoin’s value, as reported by CoinMarketCap. It’s currently around $2.12 USD, and the trading volume is healthy. I also saw reports that stablecoin deposits on TON are rising, which is a positive sign for the network’s growth. I’ve seen the value of my USDT holdings remain stable, as expected, which is the primary reason I use stablecoins in the first place.

Overall Impression

Overall, I’m very happy with my experience using USDT on the TON blockchain. The lower fees, faster transactions, and growing ecosystem make it a compelling alternative to Ethereum for USDT transactions. While bridging to other blockchains can be a bit more complex, the benefits of using TON for everyday transactions are significant. I believe TON has a bright future, and I’m excited to see how it continues to evolve.

I also switched from Ethereum to TON for USDT because of the gas fees. I was losing a significant portion of smaller transactions just to fees. TON has been a lifesaver for me, especially when dealing with micro-transactions.

Tonkeeper is a fantastic wallet. I found the interface very intuitive, even as someone relatively new to the TON blockchain. I appreciate the security features as well.

I completely agree with the assessment of TON’s speed. I sent USDT to a friend for the first time last week, and I was shocked at how quickly it arrived. Ethereum feels like a snail in comparison now.
